Charity head shaving event raises over £3,700 for York Against Cancer
15 Nov 2021
York Against Cancer charity supporters Martin Lettin and Stacey Bell have raised £3,714 over the weekend during a charity head shaving event at Copmanthorpe Sports & Recreation Centre.
Stacey’s best friend’s mum, who is also Martin’s mother in-law, has recently been diagnosed with Breast Cancer and is about to start a course of chemotherapy to fight the disease.
Martin said, “There’s a likelihood that she will suffer a loss of hair due to the chemotherapy and so she doesn’t feel alone, Stacey and myself decided to shave our heads too!
“We have raised £3,714 so far – which we’re donating to local cancer charity York Against Cancer. It’s a phenomenal amount of money so thank you to every single person that has donated!”

Martin and Stacey – BEFORE the charity head shave
Martin is already involved in supporting the charity – helping to organise the annual live music fundraiser ‘York Rocks Against Cancer’ which takes place at York Barbican on Saturday 8 January 2022.
The head shave took place as part of a York Rocks promotional night – where local musicians and bands volunteer their time and talent – performing at smaller venues in and around York to help raise money to stage the main event.
The promotional event raised £1,219.70 so a combined total of £4,933.70!

Stacey added, “Sheila is my second mum, I love her loads so it seemed like the obvious thing to do to make her feel less isolated at this horrible time. There’s a lot of people in my life, that have been affected by this cruel disease, it’s the least I can do to try raise money & awareness.”
There’s still time to support Martin and Stacey by donating via their Just Giving page.
All the money raised will fund ground-breaking and internationally valuable cancer research and provide care and support to local people and families touched by cancer.
