Meet the team at York Against Cancer, who keep our essential day to day operations running.
Meet The Team
Julie is responsible for the strategic management of the charity and driving York Against Cancer forward. She has been in post since 2006 and says she considers herself lucky to have such a worthwhile and rewarding job.
Office & Accounts Manager
Accounts Manager Heather keeps our house in order. She says: "Being part of such a small, local organisation means I get to be involved in most aspects of the charity. I consider myself very privileged to enjoy such a varied and rewarding job."
Helen manages our shops in Huntington and at York Hospital. Helen says she is excited to bring her experience in both mainstream and charity retail together. She loves to get involved with buying and meet the people York Against Cancer is helping.
Public Relations & Communications Officer
PR & Communications Officer Francine looks after our website, Facebook and Twitter pages. She also writes our e-newsletters and our twice-yearly print newsletters. She is responsible for getting stories into the local media about the great work we do and the inspiring people who make it all happen.
Office & Volunteer Administrator
Office & Volunteer Administrator Nicola oversees the day to day operations of York Against Cancer – we’d be lost without her! She says: “It is lovely speaking to people who use York Against Cancer’s services and the fabulous fundraisers who help to make these things happen."
PA to the General Manager
Lauren joined us in early 2020 and her job is to organise the working day of our general manager, Julie Russell. She says: "I have really enjoyed becoming a part of the York Against Cancer family, getting to know the team, the volunteers and the people we support."
Ian joined the team in 2010, transporting passengers to their vital radiotherapy appointments as part of our free minibus service. He says: “I very much enjoy my role, not just the driving; it’s the many wonderful people I meet, and some great characters.”
Neil is a former police armed response officer. When he retired, he was intending to take six months off, until he spotted our ad for a minibus driver. He said: “I love this job. I had more people saying thanks in the first week here than I had had in the previous 30 years!”
