Our mobile chemotherapy unit

York Against Cancer’s Mobile Chemotherapy is not currently performing its normal duties. Usually it takes chemotherapy out to cancer patients who would otherwise need to travel into York or Scarborough hospitals.
The first of its kind in Yorkshire, the Mobile Chemotherapy Unit was presented to the York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust by York Against Cancer in 2017 after the charity raised more than £1m for the unit.
During the current coronavirus crisis it has been sited at Scarborough Hospital so cancer treatments can be given outside the town’s main hospital buildings. It was redeployed to help out as it is an expensive asset and needed to be repurposed. This was very much appreciated by the York trust and patients.
Julie Russell, General Manager of York Against Cancer, said: “I am unsure when the unit will be back on the roads of North and East Yorkshire, but I am confident that as soon as it can, it will, and it will be putting in appearances in Scarborough, Bridlington, Malton and Selby. We are all really proud of the MCU and delighted that it helps so many cancer patients get their treatment closer to home.”
