York theatre group raise funds for cancer care
07 Mar 2022
Local amateur dramatics group ‘Blue Light Theatre Company’ has raised a fantastic £1000 for York Against Cancer (and a further £1000 for MNDA York) in ticket sales from their pantomime ‘Once Upon a Time’ at Acomb Working Men’s Club.
The local theatre company staged their eighth panto back in January – a production by writer Perri-Ann Barley, director Craig Barley and additional script by Steven Clark.
Most of the show’s cast work for Yorkshire Ambulance Service or the NHS hence the name ‘Blue Light Theatre Company’.
Perri said “We’re thrilled to have raised so much money despite challenging times. York Against Cancer and Motor Neurone Disease Association are charities very close to our hearts – both do incredible work and help so many people – it makes us even more determined to continue fundraising.”
Rehearsals have already begun for their summer production ‘A Performance To Die For’, a comedy Murder Mystery – filled with twists and turns to keep you guessing ‘Whodunit?” right until the end.
Performance dates are 22, 23 and 24 June 2022 at the Acomb Working Mens Club, York. Tickets are £8 Adults, £5 Child and available now from www.bluelight-theatre.co.uk or 07933 329654.
All proceeds go to Motor Neurone Disease Association, York and York Against Cancer.
Julie Russell said “The Blue Light Theatre Company has raised thousands for local cancer care over the years. The performances are always wonderful and professional – we already looking forward to ‘A performance to die for’…”
