Our 2024 Fundraisers

20 Dec 2024

As Christmas approaches, we would like to take a moment to reflect on all of the fantastic fundraisers that have been held for us throughout the year!

From business, to groups, to individuals, we have had some incredible events held for the charity throughout 2024 and we want to say a HUGE thank you to each and every one of you who helped to raise money in any way.
It would be impossible to name all the fundraisers held for us over the last 12 months, but we would like to emphasise how instrumental every single one has been in keeping our services running, growing and helping all we can. Here are just a few highlights from a spectacular year…

We were completely blown away by the Cycle Challenge held by Aviva this autumn! The challenge saw a number of Aviva employees take to the streets of York and cycle some incredible distances to raise money for York Against Cancer. Altogether, Aviva managed to raise a fantastic total of £39,506.

We were delighted to be supported by Cellhire and Your Move Anscombs once again this year in our Charity Golf Day! With their help, we hosted a wonderful day at York Golf Club, where 30 teams took on a sunny day of golf, a beat the pro competition, and entered into our raffle to raise an amazing total of over £11,700!

In August, Healthwise Regional Health Manager, Jason Minto, and Tomasz took on an incredible challenge to climb Mont Blanc in aid of York Against Cancer. Jason and Tomasz managed to raise an amazing £880, which will be a fantastic help in enabling us to support cancer patients and their loved ones.

We were honoured to be the charity of choice for the wonderful fundraising team at Hilton this year! Following a blood cancer diagnosis of one of their members, the team chose to fundraise for York Against Cancer. In August, they tackled the Cairngorms 4000 and Lairig Ghru over 2 days, and later took on the Yorkshire Relay Marathon in October. The team raised a fantastic £3,855.01 for York Against Cancer and we couldn’t be more grateful!

In this year’s Dragon Boat Race, we were thrilled to be the charity of choice for not one but TWO teams! Ged Bell Butchers raced for us with their team, The Growlers, along with individuals from William Birch & Sons Ltd. and GLL Better Health Gyms, who made up the Better Birch Boaters team. We had a great time cheering on the teams, and were so excited for the Growlers who WON! We can’t wait for next year’s race.

In September, we were delighted to be supported by June at her afternoon tea in Bedern Hall! Through ticket sales and her raffle, June raised a whopping £650 for York Against Cancer! Thank you so much to June and everyone who attended.

Leia Lingerie raised a fantastic £153 with their in-store Bra in a Box game, where at a £1 per guess, anyone donating had the chance to win a Leia Lingerie £40 Gift Voucher by guessing how many bras are in the box.

Hotpod Yoga raised £270 through their charity yoga classes! Throughout October, they generously offered £5 charity classes in October for first time visitors, with all proceeds going to York Against Cancer.

We want to say a HUGE thank you to Chris and Tom for taking part in the York Triathlon this August! Self-titled the “Pensioner/Grandparent Triathlon Challenge”, Chris and Tom managed to raise an incredible £8138 for York Against Cancer!

We want to once again say a huge thank you to everyone who has helped to fundraise for York Against Cancer over the course of 2024. You have all been instrumental in ensuring our support can get to cancer patients and their loved ones across the region. Whether you have run in the Jane Tomlinson York 10k, taken part in a sponsored walk, organised a raffle, sold our Christmas cards – the list goes on and on, but what remains the same is how grateful we are for each and every one of you!

You have helped to fund:
  • Our daily minibus, which takes cancer patients from their homes in York to their radiotherapy appointments in St James’s Hospital, Leeds.
  • Our two respite properties in Filey and Yapham, where cancer patients and their loved ones can enjoy a free break away.
  • Our cancer support centre, The Leveson Centre, where anyone affected by cancer can pop in for a chat or make use of our range of holistic services and activities.
  • Funding ground-breaking cancer research at the University of York for the prevention and treatment of bladder cancer.
  • And more!
If you’re interested in fundraising for us in the new year, you can always give us a call on 01904 764466 or email office@yorkagainstcancer.org.uk.
