Golf Day 2021

16 Jul 2021

Our popular Golf Day took place yesterday – Thursday 15 July 2021 – at York Golf Club, Strensall offering a great day of fun for local golf players – whilst raising vital funds for local cancer care.

The weather was perfect for it – beautiful sunshine and blue skies all day.

Charity Manager, Julie Russell who attended the day said “I’m absolutely delighted that this postponed event has taken place. It’s been so long since we’ve been allowed to hold a fundraiser – it feels like a big step forward – a return to some sort of normality for fundraising.

It’s been a fantastic day of golf – catching up with the amazing community of supporters we’re so lucky to have at York Against Cancer – raising vital funds to give local cancer patients hope, support and reassurance.

We had to rethink the schedule this year – being respectful of current coronavirus restrictions and how to make it work. But it all went to plan – what a success!”

Perfect weather all day

The day started with a bacon sandwich and all players were invited to a game of ‘Beat the Pro’ in the ‘Swing Studio’. After a round of golf, competitors returned to the golf club for a two-course buffet, and a chance to catch up with friends.

Competitions, a raffle and a silent auction took place – in bubbles – offering prizes such as a Campervan break generously donated by CamperVangoUK.

Covid has had a huge impact on fundraising events this last 18 months so we’re especially grateful to York Golf Club for hosting the event. A special and heartfelt thankyou to Cellhire and Your Move – Anscombs for your continued and valued support. What a difference £13,000 will make to the lives of local people affected by cancer.
