Copmanthorpe dancers raise £500 at red carpet film premiere
13 Jul 2021
Copmanthorpe based dancers – Attitude Dance Club – have raised an amazing £500 for York Against Cancer using collection buckets at their annual dance show – money which will be used to support local people affected by cancer, and their families.
Lesley Hill, Owner at Attitude said “Our annual show was cancelled four times because of Covid, and I have 160 students that worked really hard during lockdown that deserved an end of year show. We have spent the last 18 months dancing in the streets – in all weather – and training over zoom – my dancers needed some closure, so we got creative…
…I got in touch with Reel Studios in Elvington who recorded 42 dance routines (in bubbles). We edited them all together to create ‘Reel Attitude’ the movie – which we’ll make into a DVD to give to each student to take away as a keepsake.”
But Lesley didn’t stop there – she put on 3 sold out screenings of the film at Cineworld (next door to our new HQ) – on the big IMAX screen – and gave her students a red-carpet event to remember. Students arrived in prom outfits, with professional hair and make-up. It was a proud moment for parents, family and friends.
Julie Russell, Charity Manager went on to say “We have an amazing community of supporters here at York Against Cancer – Lesley is a long-standing supporter and has been involved with ‘York Rocks’ – our annual fundraiser, for many years.
It is so thoughtful of the dancers to fundraise for us at their end of year show, and it’s hugely appreciated. The money will be used to help local people cope with illness and cancer treatment and invested in research to help find a cure for cancer in the future.”
