Three Peaks Challenge for Helen

27 Apr 2021

A woman we’ve helped through cancer treatment is giving back to us through a gruelling charity challenge. Helen Macrae, 42, who lives with breast cancer, will be joined by her friends Hannah, Katy, Ellen and Rosie when she tackles the 24-mile Yorkshire Three Peaks walk to raise money for our funds. Helen, from York, has visited our Whitby flat and has also used the cancer care centre at York Hospital, where we fund some of the services. “I went to Whitby when I was first diagnosed,” said Helen. “I had two young children so it was really brilliant to have a summer break, and so nice to have something to look forward to.”

Helen and her friends are all keen on outdoor activities. When they decided to raise some money, the idea of the Yorkshire Three Peaks came naturally, in spite of the 5,200ft of ascent that they must conquer. “We all go camping together and we all enjoy walking,” said Helen. “We’ve just been able to start doing some practice walks – We’ve been around Castle Howard, where there are a few hills. “I’ve worked my way up to 13 miles on my training walks and I’m sure we’ll all manage it – we’re very determined!”

The date the friends have set for their 24-mile walk is June 12 and they’ve set up a JustGiving page through which people can sponsor their efforts. If you’d like to help you can visit the page here: http://www.justgiving.com/Helen-Macrae3
