Lauren’s Captain Tom 100 challenge
20 Apr 2021
The Captain Tom 100 Challenge is getting closer and one person who’s getting on board for us is Lauren Hudson, PA to our General Manager Julie Russell. Keen swimmer Lauren’s not been able to enjoy her hobby over lockdown but now restrictions have eased, she’s back in the water and ready for an aquatic challenge on our behalf.
The challenge calls on people to channel Captain Tom’s amazing fundraising effort in walking 100 laps of his garden by his 100th birthday last year. People are tackling a range of fundraising efforts around the number 100 and Lauren’s chosen to try to swim 100 lengths. “I’m doing it in the pool next to our new home at the LNER Community Stadium, which seems fitting!” said Lauren. “I did quite a lot of swimming during 2018 and 2019 but lockdown put a stop to it so I was a bit worried that I would have lost condition, but I managed 80 lengths the other day so I think it will be OK.” The pool is 25 metres long so if Lauren completes her challenge she will have swum an impressive 2,500 metres – that’s almost 1.6 miles in old money!
We are all rooting for her – if you would like to support her effort please visit her Virgin Money Giving page https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/LaurenSwims
