Thank you so much to everyone who has signed up to join us for our R U Taking the P…? 5K and 10K run on 21st June. We’re so thankful for your support and can’t wait to see you at the start line!
This letter contains everything you need to know ahead of the event. Please do read this carefully before the day.
Race Number
You will be able to collect your race number from the York Against Cancer sign in desk on the day of the run. Participants must wear their race number during the event. All details on the back of the race number should be filled in before the run begins.
Event t-shirts will be provided where stocks are available.
Timings
The run will start at 9.30am. We will be holding a warm-up for everyone to take part in at 9am.
Getting There
There is no parking available at Rowntree Park. There are multiple pay and display car parks located in York City Centre, as well as a number of Park and Rides. There is a train station in the centre of York, as well as multiple bus routes to the centre should you wish to get there via public transport. Please ensure you leave enough time to arrive in York and make your way to the park for 9am.
Facilities
There will be no bag storage available at Rowntree Park. All items are left at the owner’s risk. Public toilets are located in Rowntree Park.
Water and fruit will be available for every runner at the finish line. We would encourage you to bring your own drink to ensure you stay hydrated throughout.
Medics will be available at two stations on the route should you need to seek medical attention. Please include any medical conditions on the reverse of your running number, along with next of kin details.
Fundraising and Supporters
If you haven’t already, it’s not too late to raise some money for your extraordinary efforts. You can set up your fundraising page on Enthuse, and share this with your friends, family and work colleagues. Your fundraising helps us support cancer patients and their loved ones across York, North and East Yorkshire. To put that in context, a £10 donation helps us fund someone’s first call with a cancer support specialist, while £350 pays for a free family holiday in our respite properties in Filey and Yapham!
By taking part in R U Taking the P…? you are helping us to raise awareness of prostate cancer. Did you know? Almost 100% of people diagnosed with early-stage prostate cancer will survive for 5 years or more after their diagnosis. For late-stage diagnosis, this sadly drops to 50%. Through this event, you are helping to share the importance of early diagnosis, which can save lives.
We welcome supporters to join you on the day to cheer you on! Supporters may situate themselves in the park or on either side of the river.
What Next?
We can’t thank you enough for supporting York Against Cancer! If you’d like to support us further, head to our website to see what other events we have planned, or sign up as a York Against Cancer volunteer. You can also stop by our gift shops at York Community Stadium and York Hospital to find a perfect gift or simply treat yourself!
Thank you again for your support. It is thanks to you that we can continue supporting cancer patients and their loved ones across the region.
