We’re hiring a Minibus Driver! (Patient Transport)

Make a meaningful difference every day

York Against Cancer is looking for a caring, reliable, and compassionate Minibus Driver to join our dedicated team supporting cancer patients across York and the surrounding area.

This is far more than a driving role. Our drivers provide a vital lifeline for people attending radiotherapy treatment — often during one of the most challenging times in their lives. Your kindness, patience, and reassurance will matter just as much as your driving skills.

Salary: £12.99
Location: York
Reporting to: Head of People & Operations
Contract: Permanent – Job share
Hours: Circa 7 hours per day varies due to patient numbers and pick up locations around York

Working Days:  Mon-Friday (3 days one week, 2 days the next on a rotating pattern)

About the Role

As a Minibus Driver, you will:

  • Transport patients safely between their homes in York and St James’s Hospital in Leeds.
  • Provide a warm, respectful and empathetic service to individuals undergoing cancer treatment.
  • Assist passengers as needed while maintaining dignity and independence.
  • Maintain high standards of vehicle safety, cleanliness and hygiene.
  • Communicate clearly and sensitively with patients and the York Against Cancer team.
  • Work flexibly to meet changing needs and service demands.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Holds a full UK driving licence with the correct entitlement to drive a minibus.
  • Is a safe, confident and responsible driver.
  • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrates empathy, patience and emotional awareness.
  • Takes pride in maintaining a clean, safe and welcoming vehicle.
  • Is reliable, flexible and committed to delivering a high‑quality service.
  • Shares our values and is passionate about supporting people affected by cancer.

Experience driving minibuses or working with vulnerable adults is desirable but not essential.

Why Join York Against Cancer?

  • Be part of a purpose‑driven charity where your work makes a real and lasting difference.
  • Do a role that truly matters, supporting people at a time when it means the most.
  • Join a compassionate, values‑led team with strong community impact.

If you are a caring and dependable individual who wants to use your skills to support people when they need it most, we would love to hear from you.
