Stockton Hall Hospital – Charity Psycle Ride
16 Aug 2021
“Through those you know who have been affected by it and those times you’ve had your check up and had to wonder about it – we would like to do our bit to bring this terrible disease to an end.” Scott Atkinson
A group of friends from Stockton Hall Hospital in York have cycled 100km – from York to Bridlington – to raise vital funds for York Against Cancer.
The team – pictured left to right – Lisa, Michael, Piotr, Nkosi, Scott, Vicky and Marion – cycled 100km of the ‘Way of the Roses’ coast to coast cycle route on a very hot day back in July.
So far, they have raised £355 via a JustGiving page – www.justgiving.com/fundraising/scott-atkinson5 and a further £155 from fundraising at the hospital and cake sales – over £500 in total.
Team member Piotr Makowski said “We decided to raise money for local charity – York Against Cancer – as cancer care has suffered a huge hit during the pandemic.
Many local people with cancer have had appointments, surgeries and treatments postponed, cancelled or changed and sadly many lives will be lost.”
York Against Cancer’s mission is to make a difference to everybody affected by cancer in York and surrounding areas. The money raised will be used to fund vital research and education to prevent and cure cancer in the future.
All our work is funded by fundraising and donations – whether you’ve been personally affected by cancer, or simply want to give something back to the community – we always appreciate your fundraising efforts. Organising events, taking part in sports – like this charity cycle ride – or simply collecting funds aid lifesaving research, local cancer care and support.
