Retail success for York Against Cancer

Despite the toll of the recession York shoppers proved that their hearts are full of gold. This Christmas our charity opened a shop for just 5 weeks and sold £18,000 worth of Christmas cards and gifts. "We are delighted with the support we received over the festive period", said Julie Russell, General Manager,

“Thanks to the volunteers who manned the Christmas shop and our permanent shops and the kindness of the shoppers we have had our best year’s sales ever, reaching a fantastic £114,000. Every Christmas we have tried to open a shop just for a few weeks to sell cards and gifts for the charity. This year we were amazed at the generosity of residents, thank you to all. ”

2012 is a special year for York Against Cancer. It is 25 years since the charity began and many Silver Anniversary celebration events are being planned.

YAC helps fund cancer care at the hospital, research at York University, and offers help to anyone living with cancer in the city, for example transport to radiotherapy appointments in Leeds.
