Pedallers Charity Ride 2010.
Thursday, 22nd July 2010
On the 14th June 2010 Patrick Shepherd, Chairman of York Against Cancer and seven fellow cyclists left Lands End on a grueling challenge of 1012 miles to John O’Groats to raise money for York Against Cancer.
Patrick Shepherd with Jamie Shepherd, Iain Robertson, Mike Nicolas, David Mooney, Steven Loynes, Shaun Macnamara and David Dickson cycled 10 hours a day for 12 days arriving in John O’Groats on the 26th June 2010. Along the way they encountered rain, shine and chilly winds, covering some challenging terrain. Most days were started with a cooked breakfast (not always with a perfect poached egg) and finished with dinner and an early night.
The team have raised £23,152.77 far more than they had anticipated. Patrick Shepherd said ‘This is fantastic for York Against Cancer. The three key areas we fund are care, education and research and with this money we can continue to help cancer patients in the York area'.
David Dickson added, ‘The fight against cancer is a subject very close to my heart and this has been a wonderful opportunity to raise money for York Against Cancer, which does such a wonderful job in raising money and awareness about the disease.’
