Dunnington smash £100,000 target!
Wednesday, 8th April 2009
A group of dedicated volunteers in the village of Dunnington handed over a cheque for £4500 on Saturday 4 April and in doing so, broke the £100,000 fundraising barrier.
Through a series of regular coffee mornings, jumble sales and a charity shop selling second-hand goods three days a week, Dunnington Cancer Support Group has now raised a total of £102,000 over the past 11 years.
Support Group chair Doris Blackstock handed over their latest cheque to Kate Barnett, chair of the charity's fundraising committee, at their most recent coffee morning.
"To reach the £100,000 milestone is simply incredible," commented Julie Barnie, General Manager of York Against Cancer. "What is even more remarkable is that the group just gets on with this amazing work .... we just get a phone call asking us to pop over to pick up a cheque!"
