Wednesday, 8th October 2008
York's ' next big thing' - Elliot Minor - raised a fantastic £3114 when they played a hometown gig at The Duchess on Sunday 12th October for York Against Cancer.
Elliot Minor (formerly The Academy) are a classically influenced rock band formed in York, England. The band's name is a tribute to Elliot from the TV show 'Scrubs' and also an indication of the band's musical style with lots of minor chords used in their songs. The members of Elliot Minor are all classically trained and between them play the violin, piano, clarinet, cello, double bass and saxophone.
"We are absolutely thrilled that the band raised so much for the charity," commented Julie Barnie, York Against Cancer's General Manager. "It was a fantastic effort from a great bunch of lads. We wish them every success for the future."
To publicise the gig at the Duchess - and to launch their fundraising initiative for York Against Cancer, the band performed an acoustic set in the childfren's ward at York Hospital - and again in the hospital foyer.
The Band said they had decided to raise money for York Against Cancer because they had all experienced family members or friends who had been affected by cancer.
Elliot Minor have released four singles and one album - with some chart success. Their first single, 'Parallel Worlds' was released in April 2007 and entered the UK Singles Chart at number 31. Their second single, 'Jessica' was released in August 2007 and was playlisted on Kerrang! TV, The Box, The Hits and MTV Hits and was ranked 19th in the UK chart for one week in August 2007. Their third single, titled 'The White One is Evil' was released on October 29th and reached number 27 in the UK Singles Chart . 'Still Figuring Out', the band's fourth single, released on January 28, 2008, reached Elliot Minor's highest chart position to date at 17.
