Mini Bus Success
Friday, 16th May 2008
Introduced in October 2007 following a year-long fundraising campaign, our purpose built mini bus is clocking up the miles with daily trips from York to St James Hospital, Leeds, where patients receive radiotherapy treatments.
The bus was introduced following research with patients, carers and health professionals showing that getting to and from Leeds was a major ordeal for patients. Many people found that getting to Leeds for a radiotherapy or chemotherapy session that might last only a few minutes was taking a whole day because of traffic, parking or having to wait for other patients to complete their treatments.
“We have had fantastic support from the staff at St James’ in Leeds,” commented Julie Barnie, York Against Cancer’s General Manager. “They have managed to group together the appointment times of patients coming from York,on our mini bus and so keep waiting times to the minimum.”
